THE TOP TEN BEST MOVIES OF 2018 (Excluding Animated Movies)

2018 featured lots of fantastic movies and also a year that saw the box office kings ( Marvel) release blockbuster movies like Avengers Infinity war, Black Panther and Deadpool 2, and also a year of other exicting movies like DC’s Aquaman, Maze Runner, Bumblebee, Jurassic World, the Equilazer 2 and many more. In this article we will select our top 10 movies for the year excluding animated movies, so as to make things more Simpler.

No 10. The Equalizer 2

Some people might disagree with me on this one but I think it should be on our Top 10 best list, at least because of Denzel’s performance. Denzel is always a pleasure to watch on screen. He mostly does not have superhero abilities in his movies but he is just as good as John Wick with a pencil. The action-packed movie is a sequel to the 2014 film The Equalizer, and follows a similar trend of revenge. This time it was personal to Robert who now lives in Boston and works as a Lyft driver. The movie did not quite live up to the hype of the first one, but was not a bad movie at all. I am a fan of both movies and if Denzel is up to making this Super Soldier Ass kicking Action movie, then I’m sure to keep watching them.

No 9. Ready Player one

Directed by one of the most popular directors in the movie industry, Steven Spielberg ‘s Ready Player One is a sci-fi adventure film that follows the story late OASIS (ontologically anthropocentric sensory immersive simulation) creator James Halliday, who left his fortune and control of the Oasis to the winner of a contest designed to find the worthy heir. Wade Watts, an orphaned teenager with the help of his friends set out to find the Easter Egg and save Oasis and their world. A blast of pure childlike amusement. Grossed over $582 million worldwide and received positive reviews from critics for its visuals and the excellent performances of Sheridon and Rylance.

No 8. Roma

Written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, Roma tells a beautiful story of Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio) an indigenous maid who works  for a middle class family in the neighborhood of Roma, Mexico City. Cleo’s gets pregnated by her boyfriend Fermin who on hearing Cleo was pregnant excuses himself to use the restroom but never returns. An emotional and very engaging movie I must say. It won 3 Oscars including best director and best cinematography. A must watch for everybody.

No 7. Searching

An intense and well crafted crime-thriller movie starring John Cho. It tells the story of a 16 years-old girl who goes missing and a desperate father who looks for clues to find his daughter. A simple story that is worth every minute spent on it. The movie grossed over $75 million worldwide against a budget of $880,000. It received positive critical reviews for its acting, directing, and unpredictable storyline.

No 6. Deadpool 2

The coolest, craziest, and the most humorous Marvel character I have ever seen. it is the sequel to 2016’s Deadpool and the eleventh installment in the X-Men film series. Another Blockbuster from Marvel and great new characters like Cable (Josh Brolin). Although it did not gross up to a billion dollars (like most Marvel Movies), it was still a box office success and a worthy successor of the first one. I will say I prefer Pool to talk rather than fight although his fights are cool too but imagine a scene where Deapool (in his red sexy suit) gets to talk with maybe say Spider-Man, Ant-man and Drax the Destroyer, what a conversation it will be.

No 5. Aquaman

An amazing DC comics superhero film starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman. The story of a half-human half-Atlantean named Arthur, who sets out to lead the underwater kingdom of Atlantis by replacing his half brother king Orm, who seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms against the surface world.
The movie was fun from beginning to end and you will definitely love the gorgeous visuals, the costumes used, the creatures and the whole underwater concept. The highest-grossing DCEU film with over $1.1 billion worldwide and the sequel Aquaman 2 is set to be released on December 16 2022.

No 4. 1917

A nice story of Schofield and Blake; two young British  soldiers who are given a seemingly impossible mission of sneaking through enemy lines in order to deliver a message to their commander which will in turn, save thousands of lives if received in time. A tense and engaging movie with impressive cinematography, set-design, and film editing. After watching Hacksaw Ridge and Dunkirk, I got more curious and excited when any war film is about to get a wide release. I must say that 1917 was more than standard and I highly recommend to everyone. The performance of George McKay was outstanding and a very big credit should go to Sam Mendes for writing, directing, and producing one of the best war movies of the decade. 1917 received lots of positive reviews and was nominated for 10 Oscars.

No 3. Black Panther

Among all the 23 movies that has been produced & released by Marvel, Black Panther is the undisputed best, no contender. It has excellent visuals, engaging fighting scenes, great villain and like-able characters. The first Marvel studio movie to receive an Academy Award. It is my fourth best action movie behind movies like Mission Impossible, John Wick, and Avengers. It is no the highest-grossing Marvel movie but it made over $1.3 billion worldwide and won 3 Oscars. A sequel is to be released in May 2022.

No 2. Avengers Infinity War

The dazzling action-packed movie will definitely leave you confused and curious about what will happen next. My second best marvel villain after Black Panther’s (Killmonger). I didn’t quite understand Thanos the way I understood Killmonger  but for the fact that he is so strong makes him likeable for me. How can you tell me that Captain America, Iron Man, God of Thunder, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and all Avengers with even the whole Guardians of the Galaxy Crew Couldn’t defeat him. I don’t think DC superheroes included can also defeat him still but I know a guy who can, heard he killed three guys in a bar with a f******k pencil. Marvel made sure every gender, race, and age finds something they love about these Avenger movies. Infinity War is the highest-grossing movie of 2018 with over $2 billion made worldwide.

No 1. Mission Impossible Fallout

Your mission should you choose to accept, is to gather all the five Mission Impossible movies from 1996-2018 and watch them again. Nathans mission which he has never refused to accept is to track down a missing plutonium while being monitored by a CIA agent after a mission goes wrong. Action movie making at its best and if Dicaprio got an Oscar then cruise should get one too for his outstanding performance in Fallout. The introduction of Henry Cavill was also good to see. At least we got to see cruise defeat the Superman on suit with no superhero powers but I really doubt whether he can defeat that guy I told you about earlier (the guy in the bar with a pencil). The movie grossed over $791 million worldwide making it the highest-grossing film of the franchise. Two untitled sequels are set to be released in July 2021 and August 2022, both directed by McQuarrie.
Honorable Mentions: Movies like; Terminator (The Dark Fate), Dolemite is my Name, Uncut Gems, Ford vs. Ferrari, Aladdin, Knives Out, Fast & Furious (Hobbs & Shaw), Zombieland 2, Rambo (Last Blood), Jojo Rabbit, and Pain & Glory.
