A year that came with covid-19 pandemic and all sorts of bad news. Most of the movies that was supposed to come out was postponed due to lock-downs.

The ones that did manage to come out did not make much money in the box office due to restrictions on cinemas.

The year still finished with action-packed thriller movies like  Birds of Prey, The Wonder Woman 2, Extraction, Spencer Confidential and Bad Boys for life.

In this article we will exclude animated movies from our list of top tens  to make it easier for us. Lets dive in.

Tenet is a science-fiction action film written and produced by Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas.

It follows the story of a CIA agent who learns to manipulate the flow of time to prevent an attack from the future that threatens to annihilate the present world.

It grossed over $363 million worldwide making it the fifth highest grossing film of 2020. It also won the award for the best visual effects at the 93rd Academy awards.

No 9. Mulan

Mulan is an American fantasy action film produced by Walt Disney’s pictures. It tells a story of a young Chinese lady, who disguises herself as a male warrior in order to save her ailing father from serving in the imperial army.

It is one of the Disney live-adaption’s released thus far. The movie grossed $70 million worldwide (not including revenue from Disney+ premier access) against a production budget of $200 million due to its overall limited theatrical release as a result of the pandemic.

An all round entertaining action film starring Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman. It tells the story of a nine year-old girl who catches a hardened CIA agent (JJ) spying on her family during a routine surveillance operation.

In exchange of not blowing up his cover, JJ agreed to show Sophie how to be a spy. What seemed at first like an easy task soon turned into a battle of wits as Sophie proves you don’t need much experience to outsmart a seasoned agent.

No 7. Project Power

A solid and entertaining action-packed sci-fi fim produced by Netflix. It follows the story of a drug dealer (Dominic Fishback), a police officer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), and a former soldier (Jamie Foxx) who teams up to stop the distribution of a pill that gives the user superpowers temporary.

No 6. The Outpost

A solidly made and well-acted movie. The outpost is an American war film directed b Rod Lurie.

A true life story about the battle of Kamdesh. The story of a small unit of US soldiers alone in the remote combat outpost Keating, located in Afghanistan, battles hundreds of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack.

It stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, Orlando Bloom, Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrick, and Milo Gibson

No 5. Spencer Confidential

Spencer confidential is an action comedy film directed by Peter Berg and released by Netflix. It is an all round entertaining movie that follows the story of when two Boston police officers who were murdered mysteriously.

Ex-cop Spencer (Mark Wahlberg) teams up with his no nonsense roommate Hawk (Winston Duke) to take down the criminals. A very refreshing movie indeed.

No 4. Wonder Woman 1984

It’s the sequel to 2017 Wonder Woman and the ninth film in the DC extended universe. It follows the story of Diana Prince (wonder woman) who lives quietly among mortals.

Though she has come into her full powers she maintains a low profile by collecting ancient artifacts but that didn’t last long as she finds herself squaring off against Maxwell Lord and the cheetah, (a villainess who possesses superhuman strength and agility).

It is a step above most DC universe movies and very interesting and fun to watch. The movie grossed $166 million worldwide against a production budget of $200 million, falling to break even due to limited theaters during the Covid-19 pandemic but became the most watched straight-to-streaming film of 2020.

Extraction is a breathtaking action thriller movie that tells a story of a black market mercenary (Chris Hemsworth) who is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.

The mission goes wrong when he is double crossed. Extraction was released by Netflix and became the most watched original film in Netflix history with a reported 99million households in its first four weeks.

Birds of Prey is an American superhero film produced by DC comics. It tells the story of Halle Quinn, who after breaking up with the joker is threatened by Gotham city crime lord Roman Slonis.

Halle joins superheroes; Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from the crime lord. The movie is an example of what DC is doing correct.

It’s amazingly fantastic and the chaotic energy of Halle Quinn is just a joy to watch.

No 1. Bad Boys for Life

Returning to their breakout series after 17years, the Bad Boys for life (Smith and Lawrence) delivered yet another action-packed and a refreshing new take that’s deeper than anyone would’ve anticipated.

The story follow Maimi detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, teaming up with AMMO (a special tactical squad) to bring to justice the wife and son of a Mexican drug lord who embarks on a vengeful mission to kill all of those involved in their father’s trial and imprisonment.
It grossed over $426 million worldwide becoming the third grossing January release of all time.
