Every year we witness great animation movies and 2018 was not an exception. With Disney/Pixar coming out with sequels to movies like Wreck it Ralph, Incredibles 2, and original movies from other studios like Smallfoot, Isle of Dogs, Spider man, and The Grinch. The list below is our Top 5 Best for the year with some Honorable mentions.
No 5. Smallfoot
Smallfoot is a 2018 American animated musical comedy film directed by Karey Kirkpatrick and produced by Warner animation group. The story follows a village of yetis who live in isolation on top of a mountain hidden away from sight. Migo (Channing Tatum) a yeti witnesses a plane crash and finds ‘smallfoot’ (human) whom the yetis believe is mystical. Migo has to prove to his tribe that smallfoots are real with the help of Meechee (zendaya) and the SES (smallfoot evidentiary society). Grossed over $214 million worldwide. The movie may not be on the same level with the best Pixar and Dreamworks movies but it’s still an entertaining, Funny, and lovable movie with a nice message.
No 4. Isle Of Dogs
Humorous and full of adventure, Isle of dogs is a movie you will find very charming. A beautiful stop-motion animated film, written, directed, and produced by Wes Anderson. The story follows a pack of banished dogs led by street dog chief (Bryan Cranston), who helped a young boy named Atari (Koyu Rankin) searching for his own dog ‘‘Spots’’ after the mayor has demanded all dogs to be quarantined on trash island following the outbreak of dog flu spread throughout the city of Megasaki Japan. The voice cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, and Jeff Goldblum. It grossed over $64 million worldwide and also received nominations at the 76th Golden globe awards, 72nd British academy film awards, and 91st academy awards all for best animated feature film and best original score.
No 3. Ralph Breaks The Internet
Six years after the events of Wreck-it-Ralph, Ralph and fellow misfit vanellope risks it all by travelling to the internet via the newly installed Wifi router in Litwaks arcade to retrieve the piece capable of saving her game ‘‘Sugar Rush’’. They made an uneasy allies with Shank (Gal Gadot), lead character in online game ‘Slaughter Race’ and Yess (Taraji Henson) the head operator of the trend-making site ‘‘Buzz Tube’’ to help navigate their way. The Movie was a worthy successor of the 2012 video-game adventure Wreck-it-Ralph. It received mostly positive reviews from critics and was nominated for the best animated feature film at the 91st Academy awards, 76th Golden globe awards and the 24th Critics choice awards. The film grossed over $529 million worldwide.
No 2. Spiderman (into the spiderverse)
It’s an American animated superhero film which introduces a 14 years-old Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), who is bitten by a radioactive spider and gains spider-like abilities. He later becomes the spider-man of his reality, crossing path with five other counterparts from other dimensions to stop the greedy crime boss (Liev Schreiber) from opening a hole in the space-time continuum which could destroy New York city. It is adventurous, thrilling, visually engaging, and beautiful in every scene. The Movie grossed over $375 million worldwide against a budget of $90 million. It is also the first non-Disney or Pixar film to win the Academy award for best animated feature since Rango (2011).
No 1. The Incredibles 2
Written and directed by Brad Bird, the story follows the Par family as they try to restore the public trust in superheros while balancing their family life. This time a change in family role where Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) goes out to save the world While Bob (Craig Nelson) must manage the day-to-day activities of normal life at home with violet, dash and baby jack-jack (whose superpowers are about to be discovered). Their mission is derailed however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. Incredibles 2 grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide against a budget of $200, making it the fourth highest grossing animated film (behind the 2019 versions of The Lion King, Frozen , and Frozen 2), along with being the third Pixar film to gross $1 billion dollars after Finding Dory and Toy Story 3.
